Caring For and About COVID-19

We’re all doing everything we can to avoid COVID-19, but what happens if we’re exposed to it or come down with symptoms?

First, don’t panic. Next, call our coronavirus hotline at 317-325-COVD(2683). Then check out the information we’ve collected, including everything from symptoms, testing, and diagnosis to how to care for someone with the coronavirus at home:

Symptoms

While the medical community is still learning about COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control now lists these 11 symptoms as possible indicators for the disease:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Getting Tested

If you have coronavirus symptoms or think you’ve been exposed, we can help you choose the right COVID-19 testing option for your circumstances. We still recommend reserving viral testing kits for people with symptoms, but we’re offering a $55 antibody test, which determines if you’ve had the disease and recovered from it. Learn more about testing from our Coronasmarts post.

Recovering from COVID-19

If you or someone you love is diagnosed with COVID-19, remember that 80 percent of the people who get the disease can recover at home. And while you or your family member is resting, you can also check out our resource guide below and look up important information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Learn more:

Preventing COVID-19

Like it or not, avoiding COVID-19 requires constant effort. When you go out, wear a face mask and stay six feet away from others. At home, sanitize frequently touched surfaces and keep your circle of visitors small. And, no matter where you are, frequent hand washing is important. Learn more:
