Convenience and results you can trust.

Did you know that more than 70 percent of all medical decisions rely on information from hospital laboratories? Excellence in laboratory services means your doctors can diagnose and treat your condition with greater confidence. That’s why Hancock Health has invested so much in our laboratory and pathology resources. Our lab is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and we’ve long been a leader in cutting-edge technology: we were one of the first laboratories in Central Indiana to process specimens directly with barcode readings (which increases patient safety), and one of the first in the area to develop auto-verification of test results. In addition, our state-certified water laboratory helps Hancock County residents make sure their water is always safe. Many of our lab services are available at four locations in Hancock and Henry Counties. So you don’t have to go far to help your healthcare team get the information they need about what’s ailing you.

Water Laboratory

Water Laboratory

The quality of your drinking water can have a dramatic effect on your health. Your water can contain harmful bacteria and other microorganisms, as well as high levels of nitrates and lead. Contaminated water can lead to anything from tiredness to anemia and diarrhea to reduced oxygen-carrying capacity that can mean shortness of breath and even blue baby syndrome. It makes sense to have your water tested at Hancock Regional Hospital’s water laboratory. Convenient drop-off points across the area make it easy for you to find out exactly what you’re drinking—and help your family stay healthy.

How Does Water Become Contaminated?

Water becomes contaminated when sewage and other organic pollutants like fertilizers (Anhydrous ammonia, etc.) leak into the water supply. Older plumbing and industrial waste can also contaminate drinking water.

Our Commitment to Water Safety

The quality of our drinking water is something we take very seriously in Hancock County. At Hancock Health, our program:

  • Is Hancock County’s only state-certified laboratory for water coliform testing and pool water testing.
  • Is directed by a medical technologist, with the commitment to vigilance and education we need to help assure a safe community drinking water supply.
  • Provides convenient locations for sample drop-off and pick-up.
  • Offers swimming pool testing for pool season.

How to Get Your Water Tested
